Our Story

Our story began as a class project for a course as two PhD students studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. We wrote a short ‘mock’ grant proposal for a ‘handheld’ technology that did not exist in our field as an assignment for a biophotonics course. We quickly realized, “Hey, we could actually build this!”. We won a number of internal grants and were able to quickly get to a benchtop prototype design working. We’ve since presented at academic conferences and have had manuscripts accepted in world class journals. In 2020, NearWave Corp. was born and we began our journey to take our technology from the lab to the market.

Our Team

Our deeply passionate team strives to explore as many avenues as we can in order to create the best product possible for our end user. The NearWave Imager was developed in the electrical engineering labs at the University of Notre Dame by founders Roy Stillwell and Thomas O'Sullivan. Our work has been presented at national and international conferences and has been featured in many peer-reviewed journal publications. We are so excited to have the opportunity to work on such awesome technology and are all looking forward to showing the world what NearWave has in store.
